Event Details


The first TeachMeet in Angus in 2017 will have a digital theme.

The TeachMeet will be on Wednesday 8th February at Carnoustie High School from 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm.

TeachMeets are a fantastic and fun opportunity to learn from, and share practice with, fellow teachers.

Kellie Smith @kelsmif Pedagoo, TeachMeets and Pedagoo Friday I will be sharing details of Pedagoo, Pedagoo TeachMeet and using Pedagoo Friday, Pedagoo muckle and the edubuzz site Kellie Smith is a primary teacher at Langland’s Primary School in Forfar. She is keen to promote the sharing of learning and teaching ideas through TeachMeets and social media. She is the organiser of TeachMeet Angus and has attended other TeachMeets.
Joe Dale @joedale Using iPAD’s in the classroom Joe will share ideas that use iPADs in the classroom to enhance learning and teaching. Joe is a UK Independent modern foreign languages & technology consultant. Former host of TES MFL forum He is a regular conference speaker and recognised expert on technology and language learning.
Ian Gibson @gibsoni Enhancing Learning and Teaching through the use of Digital Media and e-portfolios Digital technology can enhance learning and teaching, equip our children and young people with vital digital skills and crucially, it can lead to improved educational outcomes. Ian will share the use of e-portfolios at St Andrew’s RC High School, Fife. Ian is PTC Business, Computing, ICT and Enterprise at St Andrew’s RC High School in Kirkcaldy and also part of the Fife Digital Learning Team. I use technology whenever I get the chance with classes and hope that my classes get the same buzz I get out of using technology.
Lorna Gibson @CodeClubLorna Code Club Lorna will share her experiences of helping over 150 groups across Scotland introduce Code Club to 9 to 11 year olds. Lorna is the Scotland co-ordinator for Code Club and a Code Club volunteer at Wormit Primary School. She is an honorary researcher at the University of Dundee, School of Computing. Lorna is also a STEM ambassador with a passion for encouraging girls into STEM.
Peter Todd @PeterHTodd Using assessments to give feedback that counts! I’m going to share a session called using assessments to give feedback that counts! It’ll be about office really and using mail merge to create detailed formative feedback sheets. Hi I’m Peter Todd, teacher of Maths at Arbroath High School. Self confessed geek and proud of that! Interested in maths, technology, excel spreadsheets and π 🙂
Gareth Surgey @GarethSurgey Office Mix and Sway Office Mix is a PowerPoint add in that makes presentations interactive with video and audio. Sway is software that can be used for presentations, newsletters and lessons. Gareth will share his experience of teaching presentation classes through Glow using Office Mix and Sway. Gareth is a Design and Technology Teacher at Queen Anne School in Dunfermline, Fife. He teaches predominantly Engineering and Graphics and has a whole school role for STEM and Digital Literacy. He takes an active role in Digital Learning within the school and in the LEA as a member of the Digital Learning Team. An early adopter of Glow and for the past 2 years have taught all my presentation classes exclusively through Glow using Class OneNote, Sway and Mix.
Malcolm Wilson @claganach Yammer – Learners Supporting Learners Yammer is an online discussion and collaboration tool which provides
schools with a secure online environment. Malcolm will explain what can be done in Yammer and share examples of how schools are using Yammer.
Malcolm is ICT Curriculum Development Officer for Falkirk Council. He provides support, training and leadership for primary and secondary schools in delivery of technologies and ICT in learning and teaching. He shares information on Glow in his ICT for Teaching and Learning in Falkirk blog.
Jacqueline McGuire ICT Assessment and Intervention Guidelines for Children and Young People with Additional Support Needs in Angus The Angus ASN ICT Group have written guidance to identify, assess and to make equitable provision for the technology requirements of learners with additional support needs in order to promote independent learning and raise attainment. This talk will share this work. Jacqueline is the Principal Teacher, Visual Impairment in Angus. She also line manages the new ASN Assistive technology work and teacher post in the Local Authority. For the past two years she has been seconded one day a week to the Scottish Sensory Centre at the University of Edinburgh to set up short courses and webinars for those working with children and young people with a Visual Impairment in Scotland and beyond.
Gerry Dillon @thegerrydillon Office Groups and OneNote Gerry will share his experience of using Office Groups and OneNote with his classes. Gerry is a RMPS teacher at Grove Academy in Dundee. His passion is learning. Sharing learning with others: pupils,
colleagues, parents, learning and community partners, and anyone who wants to join in
the learning conversation.
Alan Taylor Plickers I’ll be talking about how I use Plickers in my classes. I am Alan Taylor a physics teachers at Webster’s High School.
Bob Baldie @bobbaldie Project Based learning through STEM & Enterprise activities & funding. Bob will share how his STEM and Enterprise activities help educate through engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths based activities and promote responsible citizenship and a sense of community. Bob is Principle Teacher of Technical Education at Forfar Academy, Angus. He is Chairman of Angus Young Engineers a STEM and Digital Skills charity.
Lil Black Google for Education and Chromebooks Lil will share her experiences at Brechin High School using Google for Education and Chromebooks in Biology. Lil Black is PT PCS and Biology Teacher at Brechin High School.
Cara Matthew Flipped Learning Cara will be outlining how she uses flipped learning approaches with her biology classes. Cara is the Principle Teacher of Science at Webster’s High School. Dr. Matthew has been successful using flipped learning in her Biology classes for a number of years.
Jenny Harvey @relativism  OneNote to link CPD Jenny will be sharing how she uses OneNote to link her own CPD together. Jenny is a SEN teacher at Kilmaron School, Fife. She is a member of Fife DLT, CPD tutor, a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and a student working towards an M.Ed. currently focusing on Inclusive Practice. She loves resources which support good learning and teaching, including technology and its effective use in education.
Natalie Burgess @natburgess88 Microsoft Educator Community The Microsoft Educator Community is an online site for teachers to connect and collaborate. There are training courses and videos for Office 365 and other Microsoft software. You can earn badges and certificates. Natalie is a Microsoft Teacher Ambassadors and a Primary teacher. She has always had a passion for technology in the classroom and was the ICT Co-ordinator in the school for a number of years, introducing Digital Leaders across the whole school. Natalie has been training other teachers how to use technology effectively in the classroom through CPL sessions.
Gemma Sanderson @gems_sand Digital Learning at KOL The use of digital technologies is now an integral part of everyday teaching and learning at Kirkton of Largo a Primary School. I’ll be sharing our journey and the digital tools that have helped us along the way. Originally an English girl who moved to Scotland for university, fell in love and never left. I’m now a primary school teacher in a small school in Fife, married to a tech geek and proud to call myself a tech geek too!I enjoy using digital technologies to enhance my teaching and the learning experiences for my pupils. I am also a member of the Fife Digital Learning Team, a group of volunteer teachers working with Fife Council to provide CPD and support for teachers across Fife.
Richard Holme @richardjholme Technology and blogging for professional development purposes Richard will present a short anecdote about his mixed experience with technology and specifically blogging for professional development purposes. There may also be some relevance for those interested in Growth Mindset. Richard is a lecturer in education at the University of Dundee. His areas of specialism include primary education, STEM subjects and curriculum innovation. His main area of research interest is teacher professional learning and development specifically focusing on teacher-led or teacher-initiated professional development.
Derek Robertson @derekrobertson MakeyMakey and SoundCloud Derek will be sharing how MakeyMakey and SoundCloud can be used by teachers in their lessons. Derek is a former primary school teacher and ICT staff tutor who is now a lecturer in Education at the University of Dundee. He has been exploring Game based learning, Minecraft and Social media.
